Max

He was diagnosed with Thalassemia Beta E, a severe blood disorder that can present with a range of symptoms, from mild to life threatening.

We went around the globe looking for a cure so that Max can live a normal life and not be blood transfusions dependent which would have been the case in the coming years as per his physician.

Once he turned four, he started getting regular transfusions starting from every three months to every 4 weeks by the age of five. It was hard for us to see that and started looking for a permanent cure. We decided to go for Bone Marrow Transplant as per the physician’s advise and started the HAPLO treatment because he didn’t have a 100% match, in Bangkok Thailand.

Before Max went to the hospital, he was already very energetic and strong as you must have seen in the first episode. We were very hopeful that he would come back home in no time, but never did we think that the worst could happen. He battled through the procedure and came out victorious many times to the Doctors surprise but eventually he lost the battle. It hasn’t been an easy journey for us, his parents, but we can’t give up on our son’s dreams where he wanted to be a leading example even though he was suffering from thalassemia. He wanted to be an inspiration for the families or individuals suffering from thalassemia so we wanted to record everything to show the world even though he got so weak and endured so much, he would make a strongcomeback and start running again.

After Max left us, we decided to continue his legacy by starting a foundation under his name. Achyut Kukreja Thalassemia Foundation. Its our responsibility now to continue his fight and move forward by helping families with the disorder and keep his legacy going.

We would like to reach out to everyone, not just our family and friends,but everyone to help us fight this disease, so no family must go through what we did.
